By partnering with BMAT, Koda is strengthening its digital infrastructure and ensuring more efficient handling of music data across streaming platforms. The collaboration with the Spanish technology company marks a new step in Koda’s ongoing effort towards a more transparent and sustainable music industry for music creators.
For Koda, it is crucial that composers, songwriters and music publishers receive prompt and accurate payment when their music is used on digital services. This requires both robust systems and reliable data.
That is why Koda has entered into a strategic partnership with BMAT – a global player with proven expertise in managing complex music data and rights information on behalf of a wide range of stakeholders in the music industry, including collective management organisations such as Koda. This partnership replaces the current collaboration with NMP (Network of Music Partners), which, for many years, has served as the processing partner for Koda and the other societies within the Polaris Hub.
The Spanish technology company provides efficient and flexible solutions that make it possible to process large volumes of data from digital platforms and match them with rights information. Koda’s CEO, Gorm Arildsen, states:
“We have followed BMAT’s development for several years and look forward to strengthening Koda’s digital foundation with a partner that understands the complexity of modern rights management and an increasingly dynamic, data-driven ecosystem. With BMAT as our processing partner in the online domain, we gain more direct insight into data and thereby a better opportunity to optimise matching and metadata work – which is essential for processing large volumes of data quickly and efficiently,” says Gorm Arildsen.
BMAT’s Music Operating System processes vast amounts of usage data and links them to rights information. The system applies international standards such as ISWC, ISRC and DDEX and is used by rights organisations, music publishers, record labels and digital music services worldwide.
The platform delivers around 30 billion matches and 100 million identifications daily and supports the distribution of more than €2 billion in royalties annually – all to ensure that music creators are paid when their music is used.
Koda and BMAT will implement the partnership in stages and provide regular updates on key milestones throughout the process.
