Following Koda’s General Meeting: Loui Törnqvist re-elected as Chair of Koda’s board

Chair Loui Törnqvist was re-elected on Thursday 8 May when Koda’s board held its first meeting after the General Meeting. Loui Törnqvist has been a member of Koda’s board for four years and has served as chair since 2023. With the re-election, her mandate has been renewed for the next two years.

‘I’m grateful for the board’s confidence in me and look forward to continuing the work for a sustainable and stronger music sector, a sector that offers better conditions and fair remuneration for those who create the music,’ says Loui Törnqvist.

At Koda’s recently held general meeting, Loui Törnqvist emphasised that the challenges currently facing the music industry – including increased pressure from AI companies and tech giants, gender inequality within the field, and the fundamental working conditions of music creators – can only be addressed if the music sector unites to solve these issues.

‘If 2024 has taught us anything, it’s that a strong music scene doesn’t arise by itself. And that we can’t ease up on our efforts. Even maintaining the status quo requires hard work. We can only bring about change by actively assuming responsibility and by standing together, forming partnerships and reaching out – to the industry, the cultural sector, politicians and the business community.’

Preparing ourselves mentally in uncertain times

Prior to this, Loui Törnqvist took Koda’s business strategy Koda for a Stronger Music Scene as her starting point for speaking about the societal and cultural value of music – especially in times marked by unpredictability and upheavals.

‘At Koda, we work to promote a stronger music scene every day – it’s not just a fancy heading on a strategy. It’s a fundamental approach and driving force in our work. We have a special responsibility and strong desire to create real change, even when it’s difficult. We believe that music plays a very special role in our society and in our lives. Music reminds us that life is vast and great. And during difficult times, it reminds us that there is light in the darkness,’ she said.

First deputy chair re-elected, new second deputy chair

At the general meeting, Tobias Stenkjær was also re-elected as first deputy chair, while Bjørn Christiansen was elected as the new second deputy chair after Emil de Waal’s stepped down from the position.

‘It has been a great pleasure working closely with Emil, and Koda has greatly benefited from his extensive skill base, which includes being a composer, musician, and a lawyer specialising in copyright. I want to thank him for such excellent collaboration. I also look forward to continuing as chair alongside Bjørn, who brings his extensive experience as a composer and music producer to the table. In addition, we can draw on his experience from the Danish Arts Foundation,’ says Loui Törnqvist.
