Different types of rights

The music industry is intricate, with various rights playing a vital role for artists, producers, and consumers.

Understanding the various types of rights in the music industry is essential for fair revenue distribution and the protection of works. Here, we offer a fundamental overview of these rights and their importance.

The right to perform music

Performance rights pertain to the use of copyrighted music in public spaces and are managed by Koda and Gramex. This includes music played at concerts, on radio and television broadcasts, as well as background music in shops and restaurants, or music available online.

Two types of performance rights

Koda - for the creative artists

As a songwriter or composer, you are entitled to royalties when your music is played publicly. You can manage these rights independently or through a Performing Rights Organization. In Denmark, Koda oversees performance rights for creative artists.

Gramex - for the performing artists

As a singer or musician, you are entitled to royalty payment when recordings you participate in are played publicly. In Denmark, Gramex manages performance rights for performing artists in the music industry.
