Music in computer games

Koda strives to simplify the management of music rights for composers creating music for computer games. Consequently, Koda has made it possible for our members to handle these rights independently.

Self-management of rights allows you to negotiate a lump sum payment with, for instance, computer game producers, covering all necessary rights.

This is covered by the right to self-management

The right to self-management applies exclusively to specially composed music, defined as music created specifically for use in electronic games. You can handle both the composer and lyricist rights yourself if the works are used in:

  • electronic games
  • teasers for electronic games
  • free ringtones for promotion of these games
  • soundtracks, provided they are offered along with these games

The rights which could be self-managed include:

  • synchronization, copying, and the making available to the public of the compositions and the lyrics
  • use on both online and physical media
  • all territories in the world
  • unlimited time

This means Koda and NCB do not manage the rights for the mentioned usages.

The option for self-management is limited to the use in the above-mentioned areas and therefore does not include any other exploitation of the music in question (for example, use in cinematic films, television series, or advertisements).
