Synchronization - combining sound and visuals
When sound and visuals are combined, such as in a film, it is known as synchronization. A production company or a broadcaster must obtain permission to use both the copyright and master rights if they need to include music in the film.
As a Koda member, you have assigned the management of synchronization rights to Koda and NCB. However, you retain control over certain synchronization rights.
What do I manage myself?
Individual administration | Collective management (NCB) |
---|---|
Trailers, promos, commercials | TV productions |
TV dramas broadcasted outside the Nordic and Baltic countries | TV dramas broadcasted in the Nordic countries |
Signature, bumper and leading motive | Documentaries and short films - not for theatrical release |
The synchronization right, typically managed by NCB, can also be managed by you.
- You have the option to withdraw the entire category of synchronization rights from Koda/NCB's management.
Learn more about full self-management of rights - You can enter into an agreement allowing you to manage synchronization rights associated with a specific publishing contract.
Go to agreement on self-management of synchronization rights - You can oversee the use of commissioned music created specifically for a production by incorporating synchronization payment into your agreement with the TV/film production company. Ensure you provide documentation to NCB confirming the agreement.
