Radio
Is your music played on the radio? As a Koda member, you get paid for it – whether it's on National radio P3, The Voice, or most other stations. And also whether the music is a song or a jingle for the news.
At Koda, we have agreements with most radio stations. This allows us to automatically track which music has been played and when – ensuring quick and easy payments for you as a music creator. We calculate royalties per minute of playing time on many radio stations. They include, but are not limited to, various national stations owned by Bauer as well as all DR stations.
How much will I get paid?
Three key factors determine your payment:
- The value of one minute of airplay on the channel where your music was played
- The time of day your music was played
- The percentage of the music rights you own.

When will I receive my payment?
At Koda, we distribute payments to our members monthly, including radio royalties. However, the time between when your music is played and when you receive the payment may vary.
From airplay to payment:
- DR's channels: 2-4 months after airplay
- Commercial radio stations e.g., The Voice, Nova: 2-4 months after airplay
- Faroese radio: 2-4 months after airplay.
- Greenlandic radio: twice a year
- Local radio: 2-4 months after airplay.
What you need to know about radio royalties
1. Live music on DR
If your music is performed live and broadcasted on the radio in one of DR's programs, the minute value is multiplied by six. However, this enhanced payment is limited to two occurrences. If the program is rebroadcasted more than twice in a month, you will receive the standard minute value.
2. Radio commercials
Not all use of music in radio commercials are reported to us. Therefore, we encourage you to inform us if your music has been used in an advertisement. We will then investigate whether the relevant reporting can be obtained and arrange payment accordingly.
Write to us3. Logos, trailers, station IDs, etc.
If your music is used for a radio station's ID or a program's trailer, only ten percent of the radio channel's minute value will be paid out. This type of music is typically not created exclusively for a specific program and is primarily used outside the actual radio program.
