Several factors are currently affecting Koda’s distributions

Unfortunately, a number of Koda’s members are currently experiencing delays or missing royalty payments from Koda. This is due to an exceptional situation in which several factors are affecting Koda’s distributions simultaneously.

We sincerely apologize for the situation and are working intensively to resolve all the challenges.

Below, we explain them one by one:

A new agreement on the distribution of TV revenues must be reached

One major challenge currently concerns payments for music used on TV channels through television packages. A new agreement is still needed on how these revenues should be shared between Koda and Copydan, which represents a broad group of other rights holders within television, music and film.

As a result, we have not yet been able to distribute royalties for music used in TV packages in 2026.

Securing a new agreement is our highest priority, and we are actively working towards a solution. Unfortunately, we cannot say when the negotiations will be concluded.

This issue only affects members whose music is used on television. It does not affect royalties from concerts, radio or music streaming.

The TDC/YouSee dispute continues to create significant uncertainty around distributions despite a positive ruling

Another challenge is the ongoing dispute with TDC/YouSee regarding payments for rights used in their TV packages. In 2024, TDC/YouSee terminated all agreements and at the same time sued the rights holders, demanding an extreme reduction of more than 70 percent in payments.

Until recently, the matter has been handled both by the Copyright Licence Tribunal in three separate cases and by the Maritime and Commercial Court. However, in one of the cases before the Copyright Licence Tribunal, a ruling was issued in September 2026 rejecting the TDC Group’s claims and arguments and confirming that the payments made to rights holders for TV content are reasonable.

The ruling is highly significant and fully supports the position that TDC/YouSee’s demand for a 70 percent reduction is unfounded. However, the matter has not yet been finally resolved. The case brought by TDC/YouSee before the Maritime and Commercial Court is continuing, and experience shows that such cases can take several years before a final decision is reached. Nevertheless, the ruling is an important step in the right direction.

Transition to a new works database

The transition to our new works database, ICE Cube, has been much more difficult and time-consuming than expected. Ensuring the quality of our data processing and royalty distributions has required more extensive work than usual, and unfortunately this has caused delays in your payments.

The current status is that development is moving in the right direction. The system has become significantly more stable, and some of the largest issues have been resolved. Challenges remain, but the situation has improved considerably, and we expect the system to be fully operational by the end of 2027.

New financial system

As a result of a new bookkeeping law that came into force this year, Koda has implemented a new financial system. This process has required thorough quality assurance and careful handling, which has meant that some payments have been made later than usual.

The system is now functioning as intended. However, it has unfortunately affected certain displays in My Koda, where some information is currently incomplete.

Improving music streaming distributions takes time

For some time, Koda has been working to give members greater insight into the data behind their music streaming royalties. At the same time, we are working to make data processing more efficient, so that royalty payments can be made more quickly.

This is a substantial and complex project that takes time and is currently causing delays to certain distributions.

The next international streaming distribution will take place in December 2026 and will include Spotify royalties for January and February 2026, as well as, expectedly, more recent Spotify periods. Other services, including YouTube, will be distributed during the course of next year. We will provide more precise information as soon as we know the distribution dates for the individual services.

We will continue to keep you informed

We are working intensively to resolve these challenges. Unfortunately, we cannot say exactly when all issues will be resolved. However, we will keep you informed whenever there are significant developments.
